Vestry Meeting Minutes

The joint Meeting of the Vestry and Parochial Church Electors of Ilmer was held in the Church Room at 6, p.m., on the 8th of April, 1942. There were present - the Rev. W. O'Connor, Vicar, in the Chair, Mr. R.H. Attenborough and Mr. W.J. Harper, Churchwardens, and Mrs. Attenborough.

After the opening Prayer, the Minutes of the Meeting of the 16th of April, 1941, were read, confirmed, and signed. Mr. Attenborough was nominated by the Vicar as his Churchwarden, and Mr. Harper was elected People's Churchwarden.

Mr. Harper presented the Financial Account for the year 1941 (Jan. 1 to Dec. 31) as follows:- Income - Balance from 1940, £6-4-2; Parochial Collections, £17-14-11; Non-parochial do., £13-13-10; Bank Interest, 1s. 4d.; Church Box, 1s. 3d.; Contribution from local branch of the Mothers' Union, 4s. Total, £37-19-6. Expenditure - Non-parochial Collections, £13-13-10; Coal, £2-17-6; Electric Light (Church), 17s., (Church Room), 17s.; Rates, 12s. 6d.; Window Insurance, 5s.; Communion Requisites, 16s. 1d.; War Damage Insurance, - Church £3-15-0, Church Room, £1-10s; Extra expenses, Church Room, 3s.; Organist, £3: Clerk and Sexton, £5. Stolen from Church, £3-7-2; Sundries, 4s. Total Expenditure, £36-18-1. In Bank, £1-0-1; Cash in hand, 15s. 4d. Total, £37-19-6. The Statement was passed unanimously.

Arising out of the Minutes, Mrs. Attenborough reported that the Women's Institute had thoroughly cleaned the Church Room. Arrangements made by Mr. Harper for the heating and cleaning of the Church were approved. Mr. Attenborough informed the Meeting of local arrangements which the Government desires in the event of invasion, and of a battle occurring in or near Ilmer. It was agreed that in that emergency permission should be granted to persons concerned, to use the Church Room as a mortuary, and the churchyard for interment, of casualties occurring in the local casualty clearing station and district.

The Meeting was closed with Prayer.
