Vestry Meeting Minutes

The joint meeting of the Vestry and Parochial Church Electors was held in the Church Room, Ilmer, on the 7th of April, 1937, at 7, p.m. There were present - the Rev. W. O'Connor, Vicar, in the Chair, Mr. W.J. Harper, Churchwarden, Mrs. Pursell, Mrs. Kingham, Miss Doris Brooks, Mr. R.H. Attenborough, and Mrs. Cobb.

After prayers, the Minutes of the meeting of the 15th of April, 1936, were read, confirmed and signed. Arising out of the Minutes, it was reported that the window in memory of Mrs. Jaques is insured for £62-10-0; annual premiums, for Fire, 1/6, and for Breakage, 3/6, payable in future to the Ecclesiastical Insurance Office by the Parochial Church Council.

The Vicar nominated Mr. Robert H. Attenborough as his Churchwarden. Mr. W.J. Harper was unanimously elected People's Churchwarden. Mr. W.J. Harper was unanimously re-elected clerk and sexton.

The Statement of Accounts for the year 1936 (Jan. 1 to Decr 31) was presented by Mr. W.J. Harper, and passed. Church Collections for parochial purposes amounted to £9-0-3. Proceeds of a Whist Drive, 8s. 6d; contents of Church Box, 2s. 6d; gift from the Mothers' Union local Branch, 3s. Balance from 1935, 17s. 4d. Total £10-11-7. On the Expenditure side, Salaries £7-10s; coal and coke, £2-1-6, Electric light - church £1-5s., church room, 17s. Rates on church room, 9s. 8d. Sundries, 12s. 6d. Total £12-15-8, showing a deficit of £2-4s.1d. Ways of wiping out the deficit were discussed: it was decided to postpone the matter to a later date.

The list of charities approved in 1936 was adopted. Warm thanks were offered to all who have helped during the year in keeping the church and churchyard in a seemly condition. The Meeting was closed with Prayer.
