An apology was reported for Mrs S Burton, Girl Guides
The Chairman opened the meeting and explained that a community facility had been considered for some time and new impetus had been given when the extension had been aquired to the playing field in 1983. The Longwick Playing Field Management Committee had discussed the use of the extension and had held an open meeting in 1984 when a questionnaire had been circul-ated seeking views. The results showed there was interest in tennis courts, adventure playground and a centre. The Committee had tried to formulate plans and had ordered playground equipment (now being erected) and drawn up a sketch plan of a building possibly costing £100 000. The Committee had asked the Parish Council to take up this matter and the letter of 7th August had been sent to interested activities so that the whole matter could be discussed at this meeting. He suggested items for discussion viz. was there sufficient entheusiasm for such a project; was such a project feasible bearing in mind the population was about 1000; were enough volunteers available to do the necessary work; the rerection of a centre would compete with the Village Hall; would finance be forth-coming. He said it was understood BCC might be able to provide a 75% grant in 1989 or so but the remaining 25% must be assured. Funds could be raised in a small way from rates, fund raising activities but the main source might well be to sell the Village Hall site. He then asked for views.
A very useful discussion then ensued during which it was noted that the question of grants needed thorough investigation as it was unlikely a 75% contribution would be offered until the 25% was assured; that the future of the Village Hall depended on the desired of residents and the facilities it provided would have to be maintained during an interim period; that it would be necessary to establish at an early stage that planning permission for developement of the Village Hall site was possible; that the proceeds of any sale of the Village Hall site would have to be ascertained. Mr Thomas pointed out the Parish Council had leased the playing fields to the Management Committee for 21 years and this would have to be reviewed.
Summing up, the Chairman welcomed the co-operative spirit of the Village Hall Trustees and there appeared to be support for a thorough feasibility study. He suggested a study group be set up. The matter of the lease would have to be examined. It had been suggested during the discussion that the Scouts and School might provide facilities during an interim period.
It was agreed a feasibility study group be set up to investigate the above matters. It was agreed it consist of Dr Jones, Dr Bravery, Mr Crow, Mr O'Neill and represantatives from the Village Hall committee, PTA and the Sports Club. The Chairman asked these associations to make nominations as soon as possible and any further thoughts be sent to him. When the study group was complete the Chairman undertook to call a meeting. The Chairman thanked those present for their co-operation and closed the meeting at 8.45 pm.
